From Chris Bowers, of BlogPac.com
Five weeks ago, BlogPac put out a call to "find the five best new, grassroots progressive infrastructure projects in America, and provide those projects with the money, exposure, and connections necessary to get off the ground." Originally, I had scheduled the announcement of the winners for the contest on Thursday, August 2nd. However, due to the sheer volume of submissions, over 100, and to the high quality of many of those submissions, it took us a much longer time to reach a decision than I had originally envisioned.
Now, at long last, the wait is over. It brings me great pleasure to announce the winners of the first BlogPac Progressive Entrepreneurs Contest, in the order in which their submissions were received:
First BlogPac Progressive Entrepreneurs Contest Winners
- Precinct Map and Voting History Online Application, submitted by Chad Lupkes, 46th District representative of the King County Democratic Party in Washington State. This is a project to map every precinct in the state of Washington, along with providing information on how each precinct voted in key elections. Over time, this project has a goal of expanding across the entire nation, and I think it could also potentially be used for letting people know which precincts nationwide need someone to be the local precinct captain. In other words, this project has the potential to map every precinct in America, and make that information available to Democratic and progressive activists nationwide. The project has already mapped every precinct in King County, Washington, and you can see what this look like by clicking here.
You can read more about the other contest winners at BlogPac.com
So, the next step is to collect information on how much it will cost to get shapefiles for all of the counties that we don't have information about yet. Please contact me to help!

Congratulations!
It's a worthy project and I'm glad you got some kudos.
It's fairly easy to find our precinct maps down here in Grays Harbor. Here's the link http://www.co.grays-harbor.wa.us/dbs/locations/locations.html
You just click on the map and click on the + sign to enlarge it. And you can copy it to paste into a document or download it as a .jpg to use. Either way, you can create precinct maps from it that are good enough for canvassing.
But I like the idea of expanding it throughout the country so people can see from the top down and bottom up where thew holes are.
It would also be nice to be able to take voter data, either from the county auditor's or from the Demo Voterfile or both so that people can get information ala a 1-stop process.
How can we help you get that data and get it in some kind of usable form to attach to the maps?

Amazing!! I am so pleased to hear that others think this project is pretty special and worthwhile. I remember the days of obtaining maps and cut/paste effort to get boundary maps to PCOs. This is a giant step forward and we have Chad and his team to thank for making it effortless today.
