Precinct Committee Officers (PCO's)

Your participation in the Democratic Party begins in your neighborhood.

Filing for PCO in 2010

King County Elections has changed the way that Precinct Committee Officers file for office. Most filing will be online during filing week, and there is no filing fee. Click here to go to file electronically from 9:00am Monday June 7th to 4:00pm Friday June 11th. Please click here to view a poster talking about the new process. PCO Coordinators, please contact all of your PCOs and inform them of this new process. Individuals without access to a computer at home will need to go to a local public library, or fill out and send in the paper form.

Following the filing procedures is very important! PCO Candidates that miss the filing deadline must file with King County Elections as a write-in candidate. Please contact your local LD PCO Coordinator with questions.

Background

King County is divided into 2,538 neighborhoods called precincts, many are only a few blocks in size. Most precincts have a Precinct Committee Officer (PCO) who serves as the political representative for that neighborhood. PCOs walk their precinct before each election making sure their neighbors are registered voters, handing out election materials, and reminding people to vote. They also are a key player in spreading the word about Democratic candidates! PCOs are elected every two years as part of the Democratic primary.  It is also possible to be appointed as a PCO between elections, or to be appointed as an Acting PCO for a precinct in which you do not reside.

Current PCO status by LD is on page 3 of the PCO List (xls).

Become a PCO

  1. Find your Precinct through the King County Voter Guide Lookup
  2. Check the PCO list to see if your precinct has a PCO
  3. If your precinct has a PCO, contact your LD Chair to volunteer to "adopt" a neighboring precinct.
  4. If your precinct does not have a PCO, complete the appropriate PCO Form (linked below) and contact your LD chair about form submission.

Note: if you do not know your LD, use the Legislative District Lookup from the Washington State Legislature.

Filing for PCO in 2010

The King County Elections department has created an online filing system for the 2010 PCO elections. During filing week, you will be able to file for PCO of your precinct on the KCElections website. Click here to learn more. There will also be a paper form for PCO candidates who do not have access to the Internet. We will post that form as soon as it is available.

Application for Appointment as a PCO

Please use our PCO Application Form (PDF) to become an Appointed PCO in King County.

The 32nd Legislative District requires the signatures of ten registered voters on a PCO application, the others do not. If you are not in the 32nd LD, you can simply print the first page of the form, and ignore the signature page.

This form was last updated on April 26th, 2009. Please use this version of the form going forward. It will make our ability to keep our records accurate much easier.

PCO Coordinators

Legislative District organizations usually have someone identifed to continue the efforts to find PCO's. Our goal is to have Democratic PCO in every precinct in the County. Here is a list of the people known to be working on that around the county.
